Nigerian singer Oyinkansola Aderibigbe who goes by the stage name Ayra Starr, has addressed ongoing comparisons between her and South African pop sensation Tyla Seethal.
Despite media and fan speculation on rivalry, Ms Starr known for her Grammy-nominated hits clarified that such comparisons do not affect her or their friendship.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1 Xtra, she described Ms Tyla as her “homegirl” and “Gee,” highlighting the bond they share rather than competition.
She said, “Tyla is my homegirl, that’s my Gee. That doesn’t bother me at all. I don’t care about all of that. Less noise, more music.
”Let’s support each other, like, why not, like afrobeat and African music are about to take over the world and we have to come together to be able to do that. There’s no need for comparisons”.
