The governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki has directed members of the Edo State Security Network to resume their regular duties due to the deteriorating security situation in the state.
This was contained in a statement by Chris Osa Nehikhare, the commissioner for Communication and Orientation on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, in Benin.
It was gathered that last week aggrieved parties, armed with dangerous weapons, held sway in the Ikpoba area of Benin City leading to the death of over 10 people.
Mr Obaseki gave the directive after the State Security Council meeting when a review of the recent rise in homicides and other security incidents in the state was discussed.
The statement noted that the current state of insecurity would not be tolerated.
It added that the Commissioner of Police had been mandated to ensure the restoration of order and sanity in the state.
According to the statement, the state government restates its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.
