The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced the postponement of the result collation schedule for the Ondo State governorship election.

The collation of results for the governorship election in the state was initially planned to resume at 5:00 am on Sunday, November 17, 2024, but will now continue at noon.

The announcement was made by the Returning Officer, Olayemi Akinwunmi, who is the Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Lokoja.

Mr Akinwunmi explained that the delay aims to allow sufficient time for the arrival of results from the remaining five local government areas.

“We have five more local governments to collate, but we are going to take a recess until noon to ensure the results from Akure North, Okitipupa, Odigbo, Ilaje, and Ese-Odo arrive in time,” Mr Akinwunmi said.

Daily Patriot reports that the results from 13 of the 18 local government areas in Ondo State have been announced, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, leading the poll.

So far, Mr Aiyedatiwa has garnered 259,851 votes, taking a lead against his closest competitor, Agboola Ajayi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who follows with 81,031 votes.
