Tinubu confers GCON award on ‘friend of Nigeria’ PM Modi

President Bola Tinubu has conferred Nigeria’s second highest honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.

The president conferred the award on the Indian PM during his state visit to Nigeria, on Sunday, November 17.

In a statement released by the Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun on X, Mr Tinubu described the Indian PM as a friend of Nigeria.

The post on X reads: “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Honours Prime Minister #narendramodi.

“Confers him with Nigeria’s second highest honour of Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) declares him friend of Nigeria.”

Mr Modi arrived in Nigeria on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

He was received by a team of Nigerian delegates led by the minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike and the minister of state for foreign affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

The PM also met with members of the Indian community in Abuja during his visit.
