The police in Finland have arrested Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa over allegations of terrorism activities and financing.
According to Helsingin Sanomat, a Finish Newspaper, charges against Mr Ekpa also border on incitement of violence via social media channels.
The seperatists leader is said to have been remanded in custody by the Päijät-Häme District Court on charges of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.
Confirming his arrest, the Finnish Central Criminal Police said four other suspects were arrested alongside Mr Ekpa.
A statement by FCCP said, “The detention demands are related to a preliminary investigation in which a Finnish citizen of Nigerian descent, born in the 1980s, is suspected of public incitement to commit a crime with terrorist intent.”
Allegedly responsible for inciting some of the violent activities of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), the armed group of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mr Ekpa has continuously used his social media accounts to push the Biafra agenda.
Speaking on some of his alleged terrorism activities, the lead investigator, Detective Chief Inspector Otto Hiltunen said, Mr Ekpa uses his social media channels to carry out his activities.
Mr Hiltunen said, “The man has carried out this activity, among other things, on his social media channels.”
