Wizkid has claimed the top spot in this week’s Billboard new music poll, with fans overwhelmingly voting for his latest album Morayo as their favourite release of the week.
The album, which debuted on November 22, via Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records, garnered an impressive 78 per cent of the vote, surpassing releases from global heavyweights like ROSÉ, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Nas X, Jack Harlow, and others.
Morayo is a deeply personal project dedicated to Wizkid’s late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun. The album’s title, derived from the Yoruba language, translates to “I see joy,” reflecting the artist’s desire to inspire positivity and hope. “It’s very, very personal,” Wizkid said in an interview with Esquire earlier this year. “I hope it lifts spirits and spreads positive energy.”
The 16-track album features a lineup of notable collaborators, including Jazmine Sullivan, Brent Faiyaz, Asake, Anaïse, and Tiakola. It follows Wizkid’s 2022 release, ‘More Love, Less Ego’, which peaked at No. 2 on Billboard’s World Albums chart and No. 59 on the Billboard 200.
The lead single from Morayo, “Piece of My Heart,” featuring Brent Faiyaz, has already made waves, reaching No. 4 on the U.S. Afrobeats Songs chart and No. 7 on the World Digital Song Sales chart.
Trailing behind Morayo in this week’s poll are ROSÉ’s solo single “Number One Girl,” which secured second place, and Kendrick Lamar’s surprise album GNX, which came in third.
Wizkid’s Morayo continues to solidify the artist’s position as a global force in music, blending heartfelt storytelling with his signature Afrobeat sound. Fans and critics alike are celebrating the album as a testament to his artistry and emotional depth.
