The Katsina government says it has initiated a process to plant three million tree seedlings in 2025, to control desert encroachment and protect the environment.
Nasir Yahaya-Daura, the Speaker, Katsina State House of Assembly, said this during the inauguration of a tree planting campaign at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp, on Saturday in Katsina.
He said the exercise was inline with Gov. Dikko Radda’s programme to plant three million trees before the end of 2025.
Yahaya-Daura said the exercise by the NYSC signaled the commencement of the statewide tree planting exercise to be completed by the end of next year.
“To achieve this important mandate, we supported a non governmental organisation, which is currently distributing economic tree seedlings to the people for planting,” he said.
He tasked the management of the scheme to nurse the trees to maturity.
The NYSC Coordinator in the state, Ibrahim Sa’idu lauded the exercise, adding that tree planting was part of his hobbies.
While commending the speaker for his support to the scheme, Sa’idu pledged to take care of the trees.
