Rep. Yusuf Gagdi (APC-Plateau), has donated 5,000 bags of 25 and 50 kilograms of rice and 51 cows worth ₦284 million to his constituents ahead of the Christmas and New Year celebrations.
Gagdi, representing Pankshin/Kanke/ Kanam Federal Constituency of the state, presented the items on Tuesday in Dengi, Kanam Local Government Area (LGA).
The lawmaker, who said that the items would be distributed to Christians in his constituency, particularly the less privileged ones.
He explained that the gesture aimed at ensuring that his constituents celebrate Christmas and New Year with ease, owing to the current economic hardship in the country.
“As a Muslim representing a Christian dominated constituency, I understand the importance of given particularly during Christmas season.
“This suggest why I went out of my way to get these items to enable my people celebrate Christmas in a joyful way.
“Out of the 5,000 bags of rice, 1,286 bags has been allocated to Pankshin, Kanke will have 1,086 bags and Kanam, 604 bags; we have 51 cows to share too.
“The remaining bags of rice will be distributed among leaders of groups, associations, political associates, and particularly among some identified indigents persons,”he said.
Gagdi, who said that the gesture was not part of his constituency projects, insisted that he used his personal resources to acquire the items.
He explained that the items would be distributed to the constituents devoid of political or tribal inclination.
“I’m doing all of these using my personal resources and not public funds; this is because I love my people and I want them to be happy.
“What we are given may not be enough, so I call on those who will not get today to be patient, there will always be a next time.
“Let me say this, we are distributing these items here because of convenience and space, not that I have moved the headquarters of the constituency from Pankshin to Kanam,” Gagdi explained.
The lawmaker, who called on his constituents and all residents of Plateau to be peaceful at all times, urged Christians to use the Christmas season to pray for the progress of the nation.
