South African airline, Airlink, has cancelled flights to Mozambique. Flights from the neighbouring country to Johannesburg and Cape Town were also re-routed.
This amid civil unrest in Mozambique after the country’s constitutional council confirmed October’s electoral results that declared FRELIMO as the victor and Daniel Chapo as president.
In a statement, Airlink said that Tuesday’s flights from Maputo to Johannesburg and Cape Town were cancelled and passengers re-accommodated on a different flight.
This while Cape Town-bound passengers were re-routed to the Mother City via Johannesburg.
The airline added that the disruptions currently affected night-stop flights into the neighbouring country.
However, none of its other services were affected at the moment.
The airline said it would resume normal services to and from Maputo when the situation around the airport allowed.
