The Delta government has urged contractors handling road projects in the state not to execute shoddy jobs to justify the huge sums allocated to the projects.
The Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban), Mr Ruben Izeze, said this when the Asaba Correspondents Chapel visited the commissioner on Tuesday in Asaba.
Izeze warned that any shoddy job on a road project would be pulled down and the contractor would be sanctioned.
He reiterated that all road projects awarded by the state government were expected to last for 20 years if the specifications contained in the Bill of Quantity were followed.
According to him, the highway and urban projects may be few in the state but must be built as legacy projects with a lifespan of 20 years.
“In few months, rains will start and a couple of roads have been commissioned. I give you my words that every road commissioned by is Excellency, Gov. Sheriff Oborevwori, will last as specified in the project design.
“Road supervision is topnotch in Delta. I am involved in the project design and the discharge channels are vital features that make the work a legacy and an enduring project,” Izeze said.
He also charged journalists to maintain the tenets of the profession by holding government and public office holders accountable at all times.
According to him, most journalists have compromised their positions and cannot confront the politicians when they erred.
Earlier, Ifeanyi Olannye, Chairman, Asaba Correspondents Chapel, lauded the commissioner for his sagacity and commitment in the supervision of road projects to ensure the best for the state.
He said the visit was to deepen the chapel’s partnership with the state government.
