A 21-year-old sales boy, Abdullahi Dalhatu, has been arraigned on Thursday before a Chief Magistrates’ Court in Kaduna over alleged theft of phone accessories worth ₦3.9 million.
The defendant, a resident of Kinkinau in Kaduna, was standing trial for a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft.
The Prosecutor, Insp Chidi Leo, told the court that one Haruna Jafar of the same address with the defendant, reported the matter at the state Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department on Jan. 25.
“The defendant, a sales boy at “Jafar Jafar phones and accessories” located at Kawo Kaduna, conspired with two others at large and stole phone accessories worth N3.9m from his employer’s shop.
“During our investigations into the matter, the defendant was arrested and he confessed to have committed the offences,” he said.
Leo said that the offences contravened Sections 59 and 271 of the Penal Code of Kaduna of State, 2017.
According to him, Section 271 stipulates three years’ jail term for stealing if found guilty.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦200,000 with one surety in like sum, who must be resident within the jurisdiction of the court.
He said the address of the surety must be verified, and adjourned the matter until March 20 for hearing.
