The Edo government said it is set to host the South South zonal eliminations of the National Sports Festival (NSF) in Benin City.
The elimination will feature teams from Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, and Cross River for qualifiers for the national events scheduled for May in Ogun.
The elimination games would run from Feb. 23 to 28 at the various sporting venues in Benin, including the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium.
Speaking on the state’s preparedness, Amadin Enabulele, the Executive Chairman of the Edo Sports Commission, assured that everything was in place for a seamless and thrilling competition.
“Edo is always ready for sports. We are known for our hospitality, and our facilities, including those at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, are in excellent condition.
“We are set to deliver a hitch-free and memorable zonal elimination,” Enabulele said
The elimination would see male and female teams compete in football, abula, handball, cricket, basketball, beach volleyball, hockey and volleyball in a highly competitive round-robin format.
Each team will play against each other once, with the top-performing sides advancing to the knockout stages, where they would fight for coveted tickets to represent the South-South region at the NSF.
Sports lovers can expect an action-packed week as teams battle for supremacy and a chance to shine on the national stage.
