The outgoing Commissioner of Police (CP) in Oyo State, Ayodele Sonubi, says he will continue to be relevant in the Nigerian society even though he is stepping out of service.

Sonubi, while speaking during his pulling-out ceremony in Ibadan on Friday, said his continued relevance would be for the unity, peace and development of the country.

Sonubi will attain 60 years of age on Sunday and would by then have served the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) for 33 years.

The outgoing Commissioner of Police pointed out Oyo State was the state that brought the most smile to him out of all the states he had served in.

“I must therefore express my appreciation of the Oyo State Government, the Inspector-General of Police (IG), Kayode Egbetokun, my family and others for their support,” he said.

Also speaking at the event, the Special Adviser on Security Matters to Oyo State Government, Fatai Owoseni, described Sonubi as a thoroughbred and professional police officer.

He said that the dedication and leadership style of Sonubi had helped to shape the career of officers under him.

“You have been a pillar to the state in terms of security,” he said.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of NPF’s Zone II, Adegoke Fayoade, described the outgoing Commissioner of Police as a resourceful and committed officer. Fayoade said his legacy and leadership style would continue to inspire others.

While speaking also, both the National Chairman of Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Alhaji Ibrahim Olaniyan, and President-General of Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), Chief Niyi Ajewole, commended him.

They said he did so much to ensure security in the state.
