Students of the University of Ibadan (UI) have commended the Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu, for his intervention in addressing the prolonged blackout on campus.

The intervention led to the restoration of electricity supply in the university’s College Hospital (UCH).

Mr Bolaji Tunji, Special Adviser on Strategic Communications and Media Relations to the Minister of Power, made the announcement in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday.

The commendation letter was signed by the Student Union President, Aweda Bolaji, and General Secretary, Ogundijo Japheth.

The students commended the minister’s prompt response to the electricity challenge.

“The amiable power minister has demonstrated his commitment to keeping his word.

“All students of the university expressed their sincere appreciation for your swift intervention.

“Electricity has been restored to UCH and reinstated to the Halls of Residence: Alexander Brown Hall and Ayodele Falase Hall.

“Your prompt response demonstrates your value for Nigerian students.”

In addition, the students requested further assistance from the minister in lighting some parts of the campus.

“They humbly asked for the donation of 150 solar-powered streetlights to illuminate Barth Road (the longest road on campus), Tech Road, and other frequently travelled pathways used by students for classes and night reading.

“This initiative will significantly enhance security and ensure a safer environment for all.”

Tunji also mentioned that the students further sought the minister’s support in procuring a 10 Kilo Volt Ampere (KVA) solar system for the Students’ Union building.

He explained that the solar system would reduce dependence on the national power supply and mitigate the effects of erratic electricity.
