A 26-year-old travel content creator, Alma Asinobi, has urged the government to tackle delays in obtaining visas by Nigerians who travel to various countries of the world.
Asinobi made this known, on Thursday, while addressing newsmen on her proposed expedition to seven continents by road, in a bid to bag a Guiness World Record.
She claimed that it was tough for Nigerians to get travelling visas, describing it as discouraging.
“Your passport will be held for about a month, will not give you the visa, and will not tell you the reason why you did not get it.
“At every point, you start afresh and no explanation is given, yet, you are spending money, it is really disheartening,” she said.
She, consequently, called on the government to address the issues as a matter of urgency in order to end consequent humiliations.
Asinobi, a graduate of architecture from Covenant University, told newsmen that she is set to embark on a travel mission to seven continents in 70 hours.
Expressing her fears, she said: “sometimes I am scared, other times I am not, because of the encouragement I get from people.
“I am passionate about what I am doing which is travelling to various places,” she said.
She said that she had studied various routes and alternative routes for over five years, so as not to be stuck in a place because of time.
According to her, at any point she stops in the journey, she must show that she has stopped by taking a picture of important places.
Asinobi said that she is expected to go on commercial transport all through, adding that she would be guided by her GPRS.
“I will start from March 15 to March 23; When I come back, there will be the signing of Nigeria flag,” she said.
Meanwhile, project lead of Asinobi, Blessing Abeng, expressed the hope that better diplomatic relations would end all visa queues in the embassies.
“We do not want to be identified by our colour but to be treated like fellow humans, and also have better international relations,” she said.
She added that Asinobi had been assessed both physically and mentally to be able to embark on the journey.
On her part, Eneyi Obi, Chief Marketing Officer of Rise Vest, who are sponsors of Asinobi, said that they are in support of Nigerians going global on a positive note.
“Nigerian flag is going to be on various continent. It is a good thing, so we need to come in,” she said.
