First Lady presents empowerment items to 500 women in Edo State

The Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of the First Lady of the Federation, Oluremi Tinubu, in collaboration with Office of the President’s Assistant on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has presented empowerment items to 500 women as part of efforts to boost their economic status in Edo State.

Speaking at the event, Governor Monday Okpebholo of Edo State, expressed satisfaction with the initiative, noting that the donation marked a milestone for the State and Edo women.

Oluremi Tinubu represented by the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Edesili Okpebholo Anani, said that the programme, which took place simultaneously in the five South-South States, namely, Akwa-Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Edo and Delta, was meant to empower the women and boost their economic status.

According to BusinessDay, Okpebholo, who was represented by Godswill Inegbe, his Special Adviser on Media Strategy and Publicity, said the empowerment was capable of unlocking immense potentials of women, fostering their economic independence and creating sustainable opportunities for growth and prosperity.

“We recognise and deeply appreciate the noble objectives of this empowerment initiative, which is aimed at unlocking the immense potential of our women, fostering their economic independence, and creating sustainable opportunities for growth and prosperity.

“By equipping our women with these essential tools, we are strengthening their ability to build lasting livelihoods, thereby enabling them to contribute meaningfully to the inclusive and sustainable development of our nation.

“As a responsible and forward-thinking government, we remain steadfast in our commitment to the economic empowerment of women, recognising it as a cornerstone for achieving sustainable development and societal advancement”, the governor said.

He added that the initiative was a clear demonstration of the practical implementation of several Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which the Edo State Government had aligned with, including SDG 1, No Poverty, SDG 5, Gender Equality and SDG 8, Decent Work and Economic Growth, among others.

Also, Adejoke Adefilire, the Senior Special Assistance to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, represented by the Coordinate Surveyor, Ali Rano, said that the initiative was a demonstration and a bold step to the Federal Government to empower Nigeria women.

The distribution of the empowerment items, which took place at the Festival Hall in Government House, Benin, saw beneficiaries in Edo South taking away various items such as deep freezers, cooking gas, grinding machines, generators, among other items.
