A Lagos High Court sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square has sentenced Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) driver Andrew Ominikoron to death for the murder of 22-year-old fashion designer, Bamise Ayanwola.
Delivering a judgment on Friday, Justice Serifat Sonaike ruled that the prosecution, led by the Lagos State Government, had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt.
BusinessDay reports that Ominikoron was charged with five counts, including conspiracy to commit felony, rape, murder, and sexual assault.
“For the death of Oluwabamise Ayanwola, you will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy upon you,” the judge declared.
Bamise went missing on February 26, 2022, after boarding a BRT bus driven by Ominikoron at the Ajah area of Lagos. Her disappearance triggered public outrage and a widespread search. Her body was discovered nine days later on Carter Bridge, Lagos Island.
