The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has arrested 2,200 migrants on Tuesday as the administration of President Donald Trump intensified its crackdown on illegal immigrants in the United States.

According to NBC News, the arrests were the highest executed in a one-day operation in the history of the U.S.

The agency intensified the hunt following pressure from the White House, and hundreds of people detained have been enrolled in ICE’s Alternative to Detention programme.

According to the report, ICE released undocumented immigrants who are deemed not to be threats to public safety and had kept track of them through ankle monitors, smartphone apps, or other geolocating programmes.

Meanwhile, there have not been reports on whether Nigerians were among the immigrants arrested by the ICE.

Punch Diaspora Tales contacted an immigration lawyer and other Nigerians in the U.S. on the development, but they had yet to react as of the time of filing this report.
