Perennial champions Rivers Angels claimed their 10th President Federation Cup title in style on Saturday, beating Nasarawa Amazons 4-2 on penalties at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos.

The Port Harcourt side recovered from two goals down in regular time before claiming the win via penalties.

Despite dictating the pace of the game, Rivers Angels found themselves behind after only seven minutes, when Rukayat Shobowale pounced on a loose ball inside their area to give Amazons the lead.

Ten minutes later, Shobowale doubled the advantage to give the Lafia-based side a two-goal cushion into the break.

Rivers Angels sustained their momentum after the restart, and it paid off in the 57th minute, as Taiwo Ajibade pulled one back.

Five minutes later, ex-Flamingos midfielder Taiwo Afolabi lobbed home the equaliser for Rivers Angels.

Nasarawa Amazons couldn’t draw the first blood in the shootout as they did in normal time with Esther Adesoji missing the first kick.

Rivers Angels converted three straight kicks before goalkeeper Anderline Mgbechi stopped Ayatsea Hembafan’s effort.

The keeper then stepped up to convert the last kick for Rivers Angels, winning the game 4-2 on penalties.

Rivers Angels’ previous triumphs were in 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2024.
