The Nigeria Police Force mounted a Guard of Honour for the late former Inspector-General of Police, Dr Solomon Arase, as his remains departed Abuja for Edo State.

In photos shared on X on Saturday, Public Relations Officer of the NPF, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the ceremony.

He said, “The Nigeria Police Force today mounted a Guard of Honour for the late former Inspector-General of Police, Dr Solomon Ehigiator Arase, as the remains of the former IGP depart for Edo State.”

“At the occasion, IGP Kayode Egbetokun described the late IGP as an officer with enviable strength of character.”

“The Nigeria Police Force bids a poignant farewell to a distinguished national figure.”

Arase, who passed away on August 31 at 69, served as the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police, earning recognition for his leadership, philanthropy, and commitment to police reforms.

On September 17, the burial arrangements for the late IGP were announced. The rites began in Abuja with a Day of Tribute on September 24, followed by a requiem mass and lying-in-state. His funeral mass and interment are scheduled for October 3, followed by a reception, with the ceremonies concluding with a thanksgiving mass on 5 October.
