The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned Nigerians to be careful of a fraudulent recruitment link circulating online, distancing itself from what it described as a fake and misleading website.

In a notice posted on its official X platform on Saturday, the Commission said: “The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) wishes to inform the general public that the website currently circulating as ‘INEC Ad-hoc Staff Recruitment 2026’ is fake, misleading, and not authorised by the Commission.”

INEC made it clear that it did not approve or originate the link being shared.

It read, “The Commission did not approve or originate the following link: 🔗 https://tinyurl.com/INEC-Ad-hoc-Staff-Recruitment.”

The electoral body cautioned Nigerians against providing sensitive information on the platform.

“Members of the public are strongly advised not to submit personal information on the said website,” it further noted.

Reaffirming its official communication procedures, INEC stressed that any legitimate recruitment exercise would be announced only through its verified channels.

It clearly stated, “All official recruitment information will be communicated exclusively through INEC’s verified website and official communication channels.”

The Commission urged vigilance and asked citizens to ignore the circulating link.

INEC warned, “Please disregard the fraudulent link and remain vigilant.”

For clarification or further enquiries, INEC directed members of the public to contact the Commission through the following phone numbers: 09050858629, 09050858675, 09050858649.

The warning comes amid heightened online activity ahead of future electoral preparations, with authorities increasingly alert to phishing attempts and impersonation schemes targeting job seekers and prospective ad-hoc staff.

INEC has repeatedly emphasised that it does not conduct recruitment through unofficial links and advises Nigerians to verify information through its recognised platforms before responding to calls for applications.

Earlier in January, the agency stated that, “INEC conducts Ad-hoc Staff recruitment ONLY through its official platform known as INECPRES.”
