Former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has assured that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will participate in the 2027 general elections, following the successful conduct of its national convention.
Saraki made this known in a Facebook post on Monday, reiterating his earlier stance on the party’s future.
“It will not be under our watch that the PDP will die through non participation in the general election,” he said.
He added that the outcome of the convention demonstrated the party’s resolve to remain active and competitive.
“These were my words last night at the PDP National Convention, and following the successful conduct of the convention, it is clear we matched those words with action,” Saraki stated.
The former Kwara governor emphasised the need for unity and reconciliation within the party ahead of the next election cycle.
“With that clarity, what matters now is what we do next. We must stay focused on reconciliation, strengthen our processes, and build the unity required to win,” he said.
Saraki also described the PDP as a credible platform for aspirants ahead of the 2027 elections.
“For every aspirant and supporter who stayed the course, the PDP now provides a solid and credible platform to realise their ambitions ahead of 2027,” he said.
“For the doubting Thomases, there is now no room for uncertainty — the PDP will be on the ballot, and will provide Nigerians with a credible alternative.”
He congratulated members of the newly elected National Working Committee and charged them to deliver victory for the party.
“I charge them to know that their mandate is to go and win the 2027 elections for the PDP at all levels. They must not fail in this task,” he added.
The PDP adopted a consensus approach in selecting members of its National Working Committee at the convention, with over 2,500 delegates affirming the candidates.
The development comes as the opposition party seeks to reposition itself ahead of the next general elections.
