Police arrest crypto billionaire BLord over fraud, terrorism funding allegations

The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, confirmed the arrest of crypto-billionaire, Linus Williams, popularly known as BLord.

A statement issued in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said Mr Williams was arrested on suspicion of terrorism funding, cryptocurrency fraud and aiding internet fraud activities.

Titled “Alleged Fraud, Violation of CBN Act: Police Interrogates CEO Blord Group of Companies, Linus Williams,” the Police statement detailed the charges against the billionaire and influencer.

Adejobi said the investigation on Mr Williams followed complaints against BLord Group, BLord Real Estate Limited, BLord JetPaye Limited and Billpoint Technology.

According to Adejobi, the offences under investigation include cryptocurrency fraud, aiding internet fraud, computer-related fraud, terrorism funding and non-compliance with Billpoint Technology.regulatory frameworks.

Mr Williams’ arrest comes shortly after popular social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan announced his apprehension.

Adejobi emphasized the Police commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Nigeria’s cyberspace, stating, “We will do due diligence in our investigations.

“Our cyberspace in Nigeria must be safe and secure by all means. We are committed to achieving that.”
