The Advocacy Forum for Good Candidate, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) support group, has unveiled an empowerment scheme for its members in Sokoto.

Addressing a gathering on Sunday, the forum chairman, Ahmad Amadi, said the scheme was initiated to prevent supporters from defecting after losing elections.

Mr Amadi said the move is also aimed at providing business empowerment support along with the relevant livelihood skills to party loyalists across the 23 local government areas of the state.

Mr Amadi, popularly called “Oil & Gas”, explained that the initiative was not intended to create division in the party.

“Since the party lost the 2023 governorship election along with some elective positions in Sokoto State, some party bigwigs have not supported members, especially at the grassroots.

“The situation might cause the party to lose supporters, therefore, the initiative is to ensure that members remain in the party for future elections,” he said.

Also speaking, the lead convener of the forum, Yusuf Chekehe, said the initiative was put together for increased brotherhood among members.

“We want to enhance members’ welfare ahead of coming elections. Let me warn members against any action that may jeopardise our party’s unity in the state and nation at large,” Mr Chekehe added.

Speaking, the forum’s Women Leader, Larai Muhammad, commended initiators for considering women and youths in the support scheme.

Mrs Muhammad urged women and youth to take advantage of the support, stressing that empowerment remains the best tool for encouraging self-reliance.
