A former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo has been cautioned against making comments that are inciting while commenting on the stage of the nation.
A lawmaker of the Nigerian Senate, Jimoh Ibrahim said it is important that Mr Obasanjo remains mindful of his language rather than employing the language of war in peacetime.
Mr Ibrahim, who represents Ondo South Senatorial District was reacting to Mr Obasanjo’s speech at a symposium in Connecticut where he described Nigeria under President Bola Tinubu as a failing state.
He said contrary to the former president’s remarks, Nigeria is functioning effectively under the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.
He said, ” I have a lot of respect for former President Olusegun Obasanjo, but the language of war in peacetime is inappropriate.
“Everybody knows that developing countries have a myriad of challenges, but it is the most inappropriate to label all of them as failed states.
“How do you define developing countries in international relations? Failed states with the absence of government and institutions that are not working? Nigerian cannot be so defined.
“Obasanjo cannot be more interested in Nigeria than myself and many others. I employ over 4,000 Nigerians. Baba himself knows that Nigeria is not a failed state, but a country going through a difficult phase,” Mr Ibrahim said.
