The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of a 17-year-old boy who was electrocuted while assisting his stepfather at a construction site.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, provided the details to newsmen on Saturday. According to Hundeyin, the incident was reported by the boy’s mother at the Agbado Police Division on Aug. 2, around 1:00 p.m.

The woman, whose name was not disclosed, told the police that she received a call from her younger brother at approximately 12:30 p.m. that day, informing her of the incident. Her son had accompanied his stepfather, a welder, to a construction site on Church Street, Alagbado, where they were building a scaffold.

“In the course of the work, the boy stepped on a live wire that had been carelessly connected from an electric pole and died instantly,” Hundeyin stated. “He was rushed to the hospital, but the doctor on duty confirmed him dead.”

A team of detectives visited the scene, and the boy’s body was removed. “No signs of violence were observed on the body,” Hundeyin added.

The stepfather has been taken into custody for questioning, and the investigation is ongoing.
