President Bola Tinubu has approved automatic employment for the four children of the late Grace Adayilo, former Head of Service of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), following her death.
Nyesom Wike, Minister of FCT, announced this during a memorial service held in her honour on Saturday in Abuja.
“Mr President has directed me to offer automatic employment to the four children. He understands that now that there is no breadwinner, they need support to survive,” Wike said.
He explained that the decision reflects the government’s recognition of Adayilo’s service and contributions to the FCTA.
Adayilo was among the first permanent secretaries appointed directly within the FCT under President Tinubu’s civil service reforms. Wike described her as dependable and focused, noting that her death came without warning.
“It becomes more painful when there’s no sign. Someone you just saw at work, and the next day you hear they are gone. It is painful,” he said.
Wike recalled how he appointed her Head of Service based on a recommendation, despite his initial concerns about whether she could keep pace with his work style.
“I asked, ‘Can she work at my level?’ But she proved to be strong, humble, and reliable. There were no excuses,” he said.
He also described her as a mother and a mobiliser who was committed to her duties and the community. He praised her for prioritising staff welfare and ensuring the timely payment of salaries.
Wike added that one of her daughters is currently serving in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Port Harcourt and assured the family of continued support.
He encouraged public servants and Nigerians to take their responsibilities seriously.
“Don’t assume there will be another tomorrow. Whether you’re a pastor, chorister, politician, or civil servant, use every opportunity to serve,” he said.
On behalf of the FCT Administration and President Tinubu, Wike extended condolences to the family.
“May God accept her, and may her soul rest in peace. May she be in the bosom of the Lord,” he added.
