Popular Nollywood actress Ronke Ojo, widely known as Ronke Oshodi-Oke, has appealed to the public to refrain from criticising her when she associates with politicians, explaining that financial gain is her primary motivation.
Speaking in an interview on the African A-List YouTube channel, the actress addressed her stance on Nigerian politics and whether she would take money to campaign for political candidates. While describing the country’s political scene as “dirty”, she emphasised that her endorsements should not influence how citizens exercise their franchise.
“I am not saying you should not vote for whoever you want to vote for,” Oshodi-Oke noted, adding that her political involvement is purely a matter of livelihood.
“If you see me behind any politician, anybody, just see it as if she is looking for something to put food on the table. Just leave, let her eat. Do not insult or drag me,” she said.
Beyond politics, the actress reflected on her career in the Nigerian film industry, the demands of balancing her personal life with motherhood, her marriage struggles, and her decision to join the Celestial Church of Christ amid health challenges, clarifying that she holds no bias against other faiths.
Oshodi-Oke also discussed her long-standing rift with fellow actress Sotayo Gaga, disclosing that the pair have not spoken in roughly five or six years following a minor dispute. She revealed that despite their fallout, Sotayo Gaga transferred ₦150,000 to assist with her medical bills when she fell ill, though the gesture did not end their cold war.
“If we meet at a party, we walk past each other without even a greeting,” she stated, adding that her health struggles ultimately altered her broader perspective on relationships and life.
