A bomb explosion has claimed the lives of nine passengers travelling along Maiduguri-Damboa road in Borno State.

Our correspondent gathered that the incident occurred around noon on Saturday.

Local drivers who plied the road hours after the incident confirmed that the incident led to grid luck, and people gathered to express their sympathy before security agents evacuated the victims.

“I passed the road this afternoon, and I didn’t meet the incident. However, I saw people gathered in the axis where it occurred. We were even delayed in the road (sic) a bit as security agents conduct clearance operation,” a motorist, Aminu Ismaila, confirmed to PUNCH Online.

Another motorist who pleaded not to be mentioned said, “It was difficult to tell what actually caused the accident. However, we are certain it was not that cars coincided. If you see the bus, you can tell clearly that it was an explosion because it was damaged beyond recognition”

“What we heard was that it stepped on an explosive, not too far from the roadside, and the nine passengers all died instantly.”

When contacted for details of the incident, the spokesperson of the Borno State Police Command, ASP Nahum Daso, pleaded for time to gather necessary information before updating the public.

“I am still gathering report. I will provide a comprehensive update soon. I am currently making the necessary contacts,” he said.
