Rabiu Kwankwaso, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, has called on Nigerians to reject divisive politics and insist on competent, accountable governance.
In a statement published on his verified X account on Thursday to mark the start of the 2027 presidential campaign, the former Kano State governor urged voters to consider the country’s future amidst severe economic and security challenges.
He highlighted rising food prices, high business costs, widespread youth unemployment, and persistent insecurity, including terrorism, banditry, and kidnapping, as critical issues threatening citizens’ livelihoods and safety. “Our farmers need security to return to their farms, our children need safe schools, and every Nigerian deserves to live without fear,” Kwankwaso said, calling for urgent public investment in health, education, infrastructure, and institutional transparency.
Addressing his joint ticket with presidential candidate Peter Obi, Kwankwaso emphasised that their alliance transcends regional, religious, or personal considerations: “Our partnership is not about region, religion or personal ambition. It is about Nigeria,” he stated, adding that their platform aims to build a country “where government serves the people, where hard work is rewarded and where young people can build successful futures at home.”
While acknowledging the severity of the nation’s difficulties, Kwankwaso insisted they should not extinguish hope, arguing that Nigeria possesses the necessary resources and human potential to achieve prosperity. He stated that the country requires “leadership with the competence, courage and commitment to put the interests of Nigerians first.”
The former governor appealed to workers, women, youths, farmers, and business owners to back the Obi-Kwankwaso campaign and demand measurable results from public officials. “Let us campaign peacefully, responsibly and with the national interest at heart,” Kwankwaso said. “Together, we can build a stronger nation, and Nigeria will be ok.”
