Afrobeats star David Adeleke, better known as Davido, has hailed the successful re-election of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, characterising the outcome as a triumph against overwhelming political opposition.

Speaking to journalists on Tuesday at his country residence, the musician credited the governor’s success in the 15 August poll to the steadfast support of Osun voters, who he said protected their ballots despite alleged vote-buying and intimidation attempts.

“Let me congratulate my governor for his re-election for the hard-fought battle. Let me not say battle but war, where you have 17 governors, 50 senators, House of Reps, I don’t know how many they were against one man and he came out victorious. God is good,” Davido said.

The singer, who campaigned prominently for his uncle throughout the race, admitted to becoming tearful on election day as he witnessed the electorate’s deep affection for his family.

“I can’t remember how many times I cried that day because the love was massive,” he said.

Governor Adeleke secured a second term in office after defeating his chief opponent, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress.

Davido noted that the election outcome serves as a vital lesson for public officials across Nigeria, demonstrating that leaders who deliver for their constituents will earn their loyalty at the ballot box.

“My uncle should be an example to all other people out there. It shows all other governors out there that if you work for the people, the people will be with you and God,” he said.

With the election concluded, the award-winning artist stated that his immediate focus will turn to empowering young people in Osun State through youth initiatives in sports and recreation.
