The Leader of the Senate and Chairman of the National Assembly South-West Caucus, Senator Opeyemi Bamidele, has called on All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Bola Oyebamiji to contact Governor Ademola Adeleke, congratulate him, and propose constructive policy ideas following the Osun State election.
Bamidele made the comments in an Abuja statement on Monday reviewing the poll. He urged all candidates to accept the voters’ decision.
The Senate Leader noted that the victory creates an immediate obligation for Governor Adeleke to reunite the state, stating that the decision of the majority “places the burden of victory on the elected candidate.” He added that this burden requires the governor to establish “clearly defined post-election measures that will effectively first reunite the state’s indigenes and residents across all the political divides.”
To support inclusive governance, Bamidele urged Adeleke to look beyond his political party and “extend his hand of fellowship to other candidates and political parties with a view to building a resilient state that functions in the interests of all people regardless of their leanings.”
Bamidele made a direct appeal to the APC candidate, saying: “I strongly encourage the candidate of our great party, Mr Bola Oyebamiji, to contact Governor Adeleke; congratulate him on his re-election and constructively share with him innovative policy ideas that can help him serve the interests of our people much better.”
He also maintained that the APC should not view the outcome as an outright defeat, pointing to Adeleke’s previous membership in the APC before joining the Peoples Democratic Party and his reported support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. He described Adeleke’s victory as “not just a victory for ACCORD, but also for us in the APC.”
Bamidele additionally commended the election management body for its conduct of the poll. Official election updates and official results portals can be accessed directly via the Independent National Electoral Commission Portal or the INEC Home Page.
