The family of late Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician Iyun Janet Ajilore, widely known as Saint Janet, have disclosed that the singer suffered severe chest pain and breathlessness shortly before passing away at a hospital.
Her children and long-term manager shared details of her final moments during an interview published on YouTube by Alore TV.
According to her daughter, Omowunmi, the veteran artiste had returned from an overnight concert in Sango, Ogun State, where she appeared in good health. After returning home to rest, the singer visited a local market and cooked a meal before experiencing a sudden onset of chest discomfort.
“After she finished cooking, she checked around the house to see if there was anything else for her to do. I later noticed she was holding her chest. She said she felt like something wanted to drop off her chest. Her breathing was no longer regular,” Omowunmi recalled.
Saint Janet then asked her family to rush her to a medical facility.
Upon arrival at the hospital, medical staff immediately admitted the singer and administered oxygen. However, her condition deteriorated rapidly.
Her son, Orinayo, noted:
“I was told that she was having difficulty in breathing. We took her to the hospital, and she was being attended to immediately. It was when they were looking for pulse that she gave up.”
Another daughter, Fola, described her mother as a deeply caring parent whose illness came as an absolute shock.
“She was a good mother. She always ensured that people around her eat,” Fola added, noting that her mother showed no prior signs of sickness.
