Social media was abuzz following the release of a viral video showing Afrobeats megastar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, in a light-hearted exchange with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike.
The encounter occurred when Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke visited Wike in Abuja following his election victory. In the video, Davido, dressed in traditional brown attire, playfully confronted the minister regarding the election results.
“I won. I beat you guys,” Davido repeatedly declared while standing near the minister.
Wike, seated in a white shirt, smiled and contested the claim, replying, “No, no.”
“I won! I beat you,” Davido insisted.
“You beat us?” Wike asked.
“I beat you,” Davido repeated.
As the room filled with laughter and shouts of “I beg o” from observers in the background, the light-hearted exchange concluded with Davido prostrating before Wike and giving him a hug, prompting cheers and applause from those present.
The meeting followed the re-election of Davido’s uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke. Running under the Accord Party platform, Adeleke secured victory with 511,067 votes to defeat All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji, who polled 444,815 votes, winning 19 of the state’s 30 local government areas.
The governor visited Wike following a high-level consultation with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa. A photo shared by Wike’s media aide, Lere Olayinka, showed the governor and minister jointly holding the certificate of return.
The friendly interaction stirred varied online reactions, with some observers praising the singer’s respectful demeanour while others criticised him for associating warmly with political opponents.
Prior to the poll, Davido had campaigned aggressively for his uncle. Following the election, Wike rejected claims that the ruling party attempted to manipulate the outcome, attributing Adeleke’s victory to President Tinubu’s commitment to a free and fair process. “The President called him… congratulating him,” Wike stated. “If Tinubu did not allow a free and fair election, would they have won? No!”
