President Bola Tinubu has lauded the Hausa ethnic group as a cornerstone of national stability, commending their contributions to trade, cohesion, and cultural heritage during celebrations marking Hausa Day.
In a message published on his official X account on Wednesday, the President joined festivities taking place at the historic Daura Palace to honour the global Hausa community.
While highlighting the global footprint and economic influence of the language, President Tinubu stated: “The Hausa people are great pillars that play a vital role in the unity and progress of Nigeria.”
He added: “The Hausa language, without doubt, has flourished and has become a major language of unity and commerce across the world.
“I congratulate the vast Hausa community on the occasion of Hausa Day, which is being celebrated at the historic Daura Palace today.”
Observed annually on 26 August, Hausa Day, also known as Ranar Hausa, originated as a social media movement launched by Nigerian journalist Abdulbaki Aliyu Jari to champion the digital adoption and preservation of the language.
Though yet to receive official recognition from the United Nations, the event has expanded into an international cultural observance spanning Africa, Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and the Americas.
Hausa ranks as one of Nigeria’s primary languages and remains among the most widely spoken native languages across Africa and worldwide.
