Former First Lady Aisha Buhari paid a visit to former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar on Wednesday. Atiku used the occasion to draw attention to the severe financial pressures confronting Nigerian families due to the soaring costs of food, healthcare, and other basic necessities

Atiku pointed out that citizens are finding it increasingly difficult to meet basic daily requirements as the cost of essential commodities, transit, schooling, and medical care continues to escalate.

To mitigate these hardships and help citizens live with dignity and hope, the former Vice-President stated the urgent necessity for a functional economy that rewards perseverance and offers viable opportunities. He urged all public figures and political leaders striving for national progress to focus primarily on the wellbeing and future of the populace. Building a prosperous state, he added, demands shared dedication to lowering household expenses and renewing public confidence.

Disclosing the engagement on Wednesday through his X account, Atiku characterised the meeting as “warm and deeply appreciated.”

He noted, “Beyond the courtesies of the occasion, it was also a reminder of the urgent responsibility before all who seek a better Nigeria: to put the welfare, dignity and future of our people first.”

“Across our country, families are being stretched by the rising cost of food, transport, education, healthcare and other basic necessities. Nigerians deserve an economy that rewards hard work, restores opportunity and allows every family to live with dignity and hope,” Atiku added.

He concluded, “That is the Nigeria we must build together, a country that works for its people again. We must ease the burden, restore hope and Make Nigeria Affordable Again.”
