Turkish media reports suggest that Victor Osimhen should return for Galatasaray on 9 October against Kasımpaşa, following the first international break of the 2026/27 season.
The striker suffered a muscle injury during a match against Başakşehir on 4 September. He has subsequently missed encounters with Sporting Lisbon, Kocaelispor, and Trabzonspor. Before his spell on the sidelines, the former African Footballer of the Year started the campaign in red-hot form, registering six goals and two assists across his opening four appearances.
Osimhen was initially named in the Super Eagles squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau. His withdrawal was confirmed two days later after medical tests indicated that his recovery from a muscle strain was taking longer than anticipated.
Commenting on the situation, team media officer Promise Efoghe explained that Galatasaray and the Super Eagles coaching staff had originally hoped the forward would be available to face Trabzonspor before joining up with the national side.
Following confirmation of Osimhen’s absence by medical staff, Coventry City striker Taiwo Awoniyi was handed a recall to the national side for the first time in two years. Nigeria’s attacking options for the fixtures will also include Tolu Arokodare, Akor Adams, and Rafiu Durosinmi, who have all caught the eye with their recent club performances.
