Liverpool striker Alexander Isak has said that joining the Premier League giants was an “easy decision”, despite the turbulent circumstances that surrounded his departure from Newcastle United.
The Sweden international completed his move to Anfield on deadline day in September 2025 for a British-record transfer fee of £125 million. Speaking to BBC Sport’s The Football Interview on Friday, Isak said Liverpool’s stature, ambition and evident determination to sign him left him in no doubt that the move was the right one, describing the club as “massive” and pointing to its “will to get me in” as a decisive factor.
His exit from Newcastle had followed a difficult spell during which he trained away from the first team at his former club, Real Sociedad, after saying that promises made to him at St James’ Park had been broken.
Isak’s first season at Liverpool, however, was disrupted by injury. He managed just 1,032 minutes across 22 appearances, scoring three Premier League goals, before a leg break sidelined him from December until April. Despite the setback, the 26-year-old insisted he had never once regretted his decision to join the club, saying simply, “No, never. I would never think like that,” when asked directly.
Isak said keeping his focus on the future had helped him cope with the injury, acknowledging that “the leg break was tough” but explaining that dwelling on setbacks served little purpose once he felt back in a good place, since looking back “doesn’t really benefit you.”
The striker has begun the new campaign in encouraging form, already matching his tally of three Premier League goals from the whole of last season after just four matches. He also represented Sweden at the World Cup over the summer.
