Tensions across the Middle East have deepened following intensified military exchanges linked to the long-running rivalry between Israel and Iran.

The Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz, on Wednesday, issued a forceful warning targeting Iran-aligned leadership figures.

Katz took to social media, X, saying any leader appointed by what he described as the Iranian regime to advance hostile operations against Israel, the United States and regional countries could face targeted elimination.

In the post, Katz framed the statement as part of Israel’s broader security posture against Tehran’s strategic influence in the Middle East.

Recall that the conflict erupted after coordinated air and missile strikes by U.S. and Israeli forces targeting strategic and government sites across Iran on Saturday.

Iranian state media and international reporting confirmed that Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed during the initial wave of attacks, along with other senior Iranian officials, marking the most dramatic escalation between the two adversaries in decades.

Amid retaliatory strikes by Iran against Israeli territory, U.S. military bases in the Gulf and neighbouring states, Katz took to X, delivering a forceful message to Tehran and its proxies.

“Any leader appointed by the Iranian terror regime to continue advancing the plan to destroy Israel, threaten the United States and the free world and the countries of the region, and oppress the Iranian people — will be an unequivocal target for elimination,” Katz wrote.

He added that the warning was not limited by geography or identity.

“It does not matter what his name is or where he hides,” he said.

The defence minister further disclosed that Israeli leadership had instructed the military to intensify operational readiness.

He continued, “The Prime Minister and I have instructed the IDF to prepare and act by all means necessary to carry out this mission as an integral part of the objectives of Operation ‘Roaring Lion.’”

The reference to operational preparedness underscores Israel’s longstanding doctrine of maintaining proactive defence measures against perceived existential threats. Israeli officials have often argued that such strategies are necessary to deter militant expansion and protect national security interests.

Katz also reiterated Israel’s commitment to working with international partners in countering Iranian influence.

“We will continue to act with full force, together with our American partners, to dismantle the regime’s capabilities and create the conditions for the Iranian people to overthrow and replace it,” he added.

The statement comes amid persistent tensions between Israel and Iran, whose geopolitical rivalry has shaped regional security dynamics for decades.

Security analysts have noted that rhetoric from both sides has intensified alongside concerns over nuclear development, proxy conflicts and cyber warfare activities across the Middle East.

Israel has consistently maintained that it will act pre-emptively to neutralise threats it considers imminent, while Iranian officials have historically rejected Israeli military threats as politically motivated.
