The German Embassy in Nigeria has issued a public warning against reliance on third-party “visa agents,” advising Nigerian applicants to seek information exclusively through verified diplomatic channels.
In a statement posted on its official X account on Wednesday, the embassy disavowed any affiliation with commercial intermediaries, stressing that all guidance regarding entry permits is accessible without charge via its official website.
Clarifying its operational stance, the diplomatic mission stated: “We do not work with any ‘visa Agents’!”
The warning comes amid growing concerns over the dissemination of inaccurate details and misleading guidance regarding visa protocols, which risk exposing prospective travellers to financial loss, operational delays, and fraudulent schemes.
To counter circulating myths, the mission urged the public to verify claims directly with diplomatic staff rather than unverified third parties, posting: “Beware of misinformation. Save yourself the hassle & just ask us directly.”
As part of an interactive public enlightenment drive, the embassy invited applicants to submit dubious claims conveyed by third-party intermediaries in the comments section of its post, promising to debunk selected claims in upcoming public updates: “Tell us some of the things you’ve heard from ‘visa agents’ in the comments, and we’ll answer in upcoming posts.”
