Residents and businesses across several major districts in Abuja face temporary power cuts on Wednesday as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) carries out scheduled maintenance on a major transformer.
The routine six-hour servicing exercise at the Central Area transmission substation will temporarily cut power supply to areas including Wuse Zones 1 to 7, Utako, Jabi, and the Central Business District.
In a statement released on Wednesday, TCN said its maintenance crew will carry out routine checks on a 100MVA power transformer and its associated switchgear at the Central Area GIS 132/33kV Transmission Substation.
“The maintenance exercise will enable TCN engineers undertake routine preventive checks on the transformer from 10:00am to 4:00pm on Wednesday, September 23, 2026,” the company stated.
As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will be unable to supply electricity to customers in Wuse Zones 1–7, the Sheraton Hotel area, the Central Business District, Utako, Jabi and surrounding areas during the period.
TCN added: “TCN apologises for the inconvenience this planned outage will cause electricity consumers in the affected areas.”The company noted that the exercise forms part of its ongoing efforts to maintain the reliability of the national transmission network.
