The Osun State Police Command has summoned Senator Francis Fadahunsi over inflammatory death threats directed at Accord Party members in the lead-up to Saturday’s governorship election.
The Osun East lawmaker sparked fierce public outrage alongside Francis Eniade, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Ifelodun/Boripe/Odo Otin Federal Constituency in 2027, after video footage of the incident went viral on social media on Tuesday.
The remarks were delivered in Yoruba during a protest organised in Ilesa over the alleged killing of three APC supporters. Addressing the crowd, Fadahunsi issued an explicit warning to political rivals ahead of the poll, declaring: “If we see any Accord member in Ilesa, we will kill them.”
Following widespread condemnation, police spokesperson Abiodun Ojelabi confirmed on Wednesday that the Commissioner of Police in charge of election security, Samuel Etaifo, had officially called in the senator.
“I can confirm that he has been summoned by the CP,” Ojelabi said during a telephone interview, noting that an official statement regarding the investigation would be released shortly.
