The governorship candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Oyo State, Abimbola Adekanmbi, has refuted claims that he is acting as a political proxy for the state governor, Seyi Makinde.
The former Commissioner for Finance disclosed that his selection alongside candidates for legislative and senatorial seats was not the result of an executive directive. He noted that the ticket holders emerged through a consensus driven by extensive public consultations and cross-sector engagements across all zones of Oyo State.
Appearing on Arise News on Tuesday, Adekanmbi insisted that he possesses a distinct manifesto and strategic blueprint for steering the state’s affairs. He stated his readiness to chart his own political direction and assume full accountability for his executive choices, rather than taking on the incumbent governor’s political rivalries or burdens.
Adekanmbi affirmed his autonomy by declaring: “I’m no surrogate to Governor Makinde. The governor made it clear that I shouldn’t inherit his enemies or liabilities.”
He added that he intends to take total ownership of his administration, concluding: “I’m owning every action I take as governor, just as I have always owned my actions in life. I own it, and I’m prepared.”
