Candidates with an “Admission in Progress” status must not assume they have secured a place, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned.
The tag indicates that an institution’s admission officer has proposed a candidate, but the head of the institution has yet to recommend them, or that JAMB approval remains pending. An offer can still be rejected at this stage if a candidate fails to meet the prerequisite criteria.
These clarifications were provided in an explainer video on Thursday detailing the various statuses on the Central Admissions Processing System.
Only when the Board officially approves the offer does a candidate’s status change to “Admitted”, unlocking the option to accept or reject the place via CAPS. At this stage, candidates receive the message, “CONGRATULATIONS, YOU HAVE BEEN OFFERED ADMISSION”.
The board also said the tatus of “Not Admitted” simply indicates that an offer has not yet been extended, rather than a final rejection. Applicants in this position are urged to check their portals regularly, as statuses will continue to update throughout the process until final admission letters are printed. JAMB advised candidates to rely solely on its official channels for verified updates.
