Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, the Acting Comptroller General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS), has pledged to implement new strategies to address the persistent issue of overcrowding in the country’s custodial centres.
According to Daily Trust, he made this announcement during a meeting with the heads of directorates at the service’s headquarters in Abuja on Monday.
According to the Service’s spokesman, Umar Abubakar, the Acting CGC highlighted the need for teamwork, transparency, and innovation in confronting the complex challenges facing the service.
Nwakuche stated that the aim is to transform the service into a model of excellence, focusing on security, reform, and the reintegration of offenders. He noted that this transformation can only be realised through collaboration, accountability, and the collective commitment of all stakeholders.
He urged all officers to stay dedicated to their roles and assured them of his full support in building a secure and humane correctional system.
