A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has denied claims that it plans to support President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

The faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, stated this on Monday during an interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief.

According to him, the PDP will field its own presidential candidate for the election.

“We are not supporting President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu for 2027 general election. We will do everything to field our own candidate.

“And I am appealing to Nigerians to please give us little time between now and the time we will conduct our primaries.

“All these rumours about we are supporting APC or [being an] appendage of the APC will come to pass.

“Time will take care of all these rumours and propaganda. It is aimed at either discrediting the PDP or discrediting the Honourable Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike,” he said.

The position comes amid Wike’s repeated expressions of support for Tinubu’s second-term bid.

In early March 2026, Wike said during a media parley in Abuja that he would work for Tinubu’s re-election, noting that his support would cut across party lines for candidates aligned with the President.

Despite this, Mohammed described Wike as a key political figure who could contribute positively to any party in Nigeria.

“He is an asset as far as political space and political development of this country is concerned.

“No political party will not wish to have Nyesom Wike in their fold,” he added.
