Victor Osimhen’s future at Napoli has become increasingly uncertain following the club’s agreement with Chelsea to sign Romelu Lukaku for €30 million. The deal, which includes add-ons and extends until June 2027, has been finalised, and Lukaku has been cleared to travel for medical tests and contract signing.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed the move on his X account on Tuesday, stating, “Green light also on documents for Romelu Lukaku’s move to Napoli! He’s been authorized to travel for medical tests and contract signing. €30m permanent deal plus add-ons, deal until June 2027. Never in doubt.”
The signing of Lukaku complicates the situation for Osimhen, whose future at Napoli was already uncertain due to his hefty €130 million release clause. With several potential buyers hesitating over the high price tag, Napoli had reportedly been considering a meeting with Osimhen’s representatives to discuss him staying for another season. However, Lukaku’s arrival, as another aggressive striker long favoured by former Chelsea coach Antonio Conte, seems to have closed that door.
Osimhen was one of the standout players of the 2023/24 season for Napoli, making him a top target in the summer transfer window. However, with only few days left in the window, his options are narrowing. Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) initially showed interest in the 25-year-old Nigerian striker as a potential replacement for Kylian Mbappe, but they have since withdrawn from the race.
With the transfer window nearing its close, Osimhen’s next move remains uncertain as Napoli’s new addition of Lukaku could signal the end of his time at the club.
