Police arraign two in Ibadan over alleged unlawful possession of gun

The men, simply identified as Ojo, 24, and Sabini, 18, without known addresses, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Two men – Jonathan Ojo and Friday Sabin – alleged to have been in unlawful possession of a gun, were on Tuesday brought before an Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court in Ibadan.

Messrs Ojo, 24, and Sabini, 18, whose addresses were not provided, pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against them.

The Prosecutor, ASP Foluke Adedosu, told the court the defendants were intercepted on August 25, at 6:00 pm, in the Akinyele area of Ibadan in possession of a gun.

ASP Adedosu said that the police caught the defendants with a locally made gun without a licence.

She alleged that the defendants intended to use the gun to commit a crime.

Adedosu said the offence contravened Section 417(D) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mrs M. Olagbenro, granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 each with one surety each in like sum, and adjourned the case until November 18 for mention.
