Christopher Tunji-Ayeni, a former deputy speaker of the Kwara House of Assembly has died in a crash along the Ajase-Ipo, in the Irepodun Local Government Area of the state.
The spokesperson for the Kwara Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Olayinka Basambo while confirming the incident said, Mr Tunji-Ayeni died on Thursday, October 31, 2024.
According to Mrs Basambo, the road accident occurred at about 10:10 am at a location that is 500 meters away from Igbaja Junction on the Ajase-llorin Highway.
She said the corps received a call from good samaritans about the incident and immediately deployed some personnel to the scene.
Her words, “Two vehicles were involved in the accident. One was a Toyota Hilux (Pick-up) with registration number ARP 545 KY, while the other was a commercial truck, with registration number T-17488LA.”
She added that five people – three male and two female – who were involved in the crash sustained some injuries.
“The victims were immediately taken to the nearest hospital in Ajase-Ipo were one person later lost his life during treatment,” Mrs Basambo said.
She also noted that investigations by the FRSC showed that the crash occurred due to overspeeding.
