Nasarawa speaker sponsors 13 players to Ghana for football trials

The Speaker urged the players to remain good ambassadors of the LGA, Nasarawa State and Nigeria while in Ghana and beyond.

The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Danladi Jatau, is sponsoring 13 football players from Kokona LGA of the State to Accra, Ghana for football trials.

Mr Jatau (APC- Kokona West) while addressing the players ”Team Speaker” in his office on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, urged them to remain good ambassadors of the LGA, Nasarawa State and Nigeria while in Ghana and beyond.

He explained that the young players emerged during the recent unity competition he organised for the youths of the 11 wards of the LGA.

According to the Speaker, he decided to organise the competition to champion unity across the local Government Areas.

He said, “Secondly, to discover talents among the youths, as you can see, we have discovered their talents through my competition.

“If I did not organise the competition, we won’t be able to discover their hidden talents,” he said.

The speaker congratulated the players and wished them well.

”I am proud of you, go out and perform by making the state proud,” he added.

Jatau assured them of his support at all times saying, “I will continue to support you when the need arises and to enable you succeed.”

Earlier, the coach Bawa Mohammed who is the Director of Sports for the ECOWAS Commission said that he was in the Speaker’s office to present the players to him ahead of their movement to Ghana on November 16.

”I want to appreciate you for the sponsorship as I will be taking the 13 players to Ghana for final trials this coming Saturday,” the coach said.

Mr Bawa described the Speaker’s gesture as the first of its kind in the history of Kokona LGA.
